1. Hey! wise up!
放聰明點好嗎?
當別人作了什麼愚蠢的事時, 你可以說, "Don't be stupid" 或是 "Don't be silly." 但是這是非常不禮貌的說法. 比較客氣一點的說法就是, wise up! 它就相當於中文裏的放聰明點. 你也可以用堅酸刻薄的語氣說. Wise up, please. 然後故意把 please 的尾音拉得長長的.
也有人會說, Hey! grow up. 意思就是你長大一點好不好? 例如有人二十歲了卻還不會自己補衣服, 你就可以說 Hey! grow up. 這根 wise up 是不是也差不多呢?

2.Don't push me around.
不要擺佈我.
這個詞很有意思, 把你推來推去, 作擺佈解釋, 如果有人指揮你一下作這個一下作那個, 你就可以用這一句 Hey! Don't push me around. 通常當我講 "Don't push me around." 時, 还有一個字 bossy. Bossy 就是說像是老闆一樣, 喜歡指揮別人. 例如, "You are so bossy. I don't like that."
這句話也可以單講, "Don't push me." 或是 "Don't push me any further." 還有一句根 push 有關的成語, 叫 push the button, 意思就是, 指使, 操縱. 例如, "I know why you are doing this, someone is pushing your button!"

外国人跟我們一樣, 要是二個人一言不合吵起來了, 可能就有人要說這一句了. 指的就是要不要出去打架啦. 還有一些我聽過類似的用法, 例如, "Do you want to pick a fight?" 你要挑起爭端嗎? 或是 "This means war." 這就意謂著跟我宣戰.

4.Do you like to go out eating?
想不想出去吃呢?
問外国人出去吃東西怎麼說, 他们会回答說一般出去吃飯, 只說 go to eat , go out eating 或是 eat out 而不會說 go to dinner, go for lunch, 也就是不需特地說中餐或是晚餐. 所以應該要說 I just went out eating, 而不會說 I just went to dinner. 小細節多注意, 你的英文會更棒.
如果要強調是去吃午餐或晚餐的話, 一般就直接說 lunch 或是 dinner. 例如人家問你, "Where did you go?" 你就可以答說 "lunch."

通常點牛排, 或是在高級一點的餐廳點牛肉漢堡, 服務生都會這樣問你, How do you like it cooked? 回答的方式, 全熟是 well done, 七分熟: medium well, 五分熟: medium, 四分熟: medium rare, 三分熟: rare.

蛋的說法跟肉類又不一樣, 蛋的回答方法是 1. Scramble 炒蛋 2. Sunny side up 只煎一面的荷包蛋, (這句話很有意思, 因為荷包蛋像太陽, 所以外国人用 sunny side 來形容) 3. Sunny side down 二面都煎或是 ease over.
白煮蛋的話也分二種, 一種叫 soft boil 一種叫 hard boil. 所謂的 soft boil 是指讓蛋黃的部份還有點液體狀, 而 hard boil 則是指整個的蛋黃都煮成固體狀的.

好用形容詞
That cut looks very gross/nasty. 這個傷口看起來非常地噁心。
「噁心」或是令人覺得「反胃」在英文裏最精準的翻譯就是 gross 或是 nasty。舉凡看到的、吃到的、聞到的甚至是聽到的，讓人有一種噁心的感覺，我們都可以很順理成章地用 gross 和 nasty形容。比方說某人腳上的傷口不但面積很廣，而且被細菌感染導致傷口潰爛，(是不是很噁心呢？) 這時我們就可以說，"That's so gross." "Your cut looks really nasty."又比方說有人剛上完廁所也不洗手就跑去拿東西吃，當場你就可以不客氣地對他說，"You are so gross." 或是 "You are so nasty." (你真噁心。)另外一個跟 gross/nasty 意思一模一樣，但語氣上聽來更為強烈的則是 disgusting。

He is lame. 他很無趣。
Lame 大概是用得最普遍的一個用來形容「無趣」的形容詞吧。例如我們在中文裏說這個笑話很「冷」，在英文就是翻成，"The joke is so lame." 但是如果你想試著解釋為什麼我們說，"The joke is so cold." 則大可不必，因為只怕你還沒解釋完，早就覺得很「冷」了吧！Lame 不但可以拿來形容笑話，也可以用來形容人。例如，"He is so lame." 意思就是 "He is no fun." 的意思。

Filthy 和 dirty 都是骯髒的意思。除了 filthy 和 dirty 之外，sticky 和 greasy 這兩個字也常用來形容骯髒，但 sticky 是特別指「黏黏的」，而 greasy 則是指「油膩膩的」。

Creepy 和 scary 這兩個形容詞都是用來形容令人「害怕」的感覺。但這兩者其實有著小小的差異。Creepy 的話是指「心裏毛毛的」那種感覺，而 scary 則是真的令人感到害怕，所以在程度上來說 scary 比 creepy 還要來得恐怖些。比方說像是看恐怖電影，也許你可以說 "It's creepy." 和 "It's scary." 都可以，但是如果像是去從事高空彈跳 (bungee jump)，我想對大部份的人來說都是 scary 而不只是 creepy 了！

Spooky 跟 creepy 和 scary 同樣有著「另人害怕」的意思，但是 spooky 或是 spooked (以人當主詞時) 通常是跟鬼怪或是幽靈之類的那種害怕。例如把你一個人留在大房子裏讓你覺得毛骨悚然，你就可以說，"I was spooked when I was left in a big house."
講到這裏，就不能不順便提一下英文裏「鬼屋」的講法，可不是 ghost house 喔！比較正確的講法應讓是 haunted house，haunted 這個字本身就有被不乾淨的東西所佔據 (haunted) 的意思，所以 haunted house 就有了鬼屋的意思。常常可以見到 spooky 和 haunted 這兩個字連用，因為它們都是和「鬼」有關的字。例如，"It's a spooky experience to visit the haunted house." (當我在鬼屋裏時讓我覺得毛骨悚然。)

遇到了挫折或不如意的事情，要怎麼樣去安慰人呢？
1. Hang in there. 撐下去。
想像有人快要從懸崖上掉下去，只剩下一隻手抓著僅剩的一點的石塊，這時候他最需要的一句話就是 "Hang in there." 在這裏 hang in 就是抓住不要讓自己掉下去的意思。
用在實際的生活中，就是鼓勵別人要堅持下去，不要放棄。像有一次電視節目中有個人被槍所射傷，他的好友就對他說，"Hang in there. I'll call the ambulance." (撐下去，我去叫救護車。)
2. Cheer up. You've done a good job. 高興點兒，你作得很好啊。
Cheer up 也是常用來鼓勵人的話，就是要別人高興一點，不要難過 (Don't be sad.) 而 "You've done a good job." 這句話則幾乎己經成為一種固定用法，每當別人完成一件任務時，你都可以跟他說，"You've done a good job." 或是簡單地說，"Good job." 或是 "Well done."
3. You are very supportive. 你很支持我。
支持在中文裏是個動詞，所以這句話很多人會說成 "You support me a lot." 這樣的講法也沒錯， 但 support somebody 在英文裏常有在金錢上支持某人作某件事的意思。例如 "My parents support me to go to the college." (我父母供我上大學。)因此老美常用 supportive 來表示一個人對一個人的支持。例如一些訪談的節目中就常可以聽到這樣的話， "My husband is very supportive." (我的丈夫對我十分支持。) 或是要感謝別人對你的支持時， 你也可以說，"You are very supportive."
4.I'll get over it. 自己會度過難關
例如當你輸了一場重要的比賽， 這時就可以安慰自己說，"I'll get over it."
5. Face it ! 面對現實吧!
"Face it." 跟 "Deal with it." 都是口語中非常常見的用法， 指的是去面對眼前的這個狀況。例如有人說他很想追某個名花有主的女孩，你就可以勸他，"Face it. She is dating someone else." (面對現實吧。她已經有交往的對象了。) 再舉個例子，比方說沒錢花了,但你的狐群狗黨們還要你出去吃喝玩樂。這時你就可以說， "Deal with it. I have no money now." (面對現實吧! 我已經沒錢了。)
如果是極度困難的狀況，則還可以用 face the music 這個片語來加強語氣，這可不是聽音樂的意思喔! 而是指面對困難的狀況， 例如，"We have to face the music; your father is a nut case." (我們必須面對現實，你的父親是個瘋子。)
6. They treat me like crap. 他們待我像廢物一樣。
Crap 這個字指的是廢物(也就是便便的意思啦!)是個不雅的字眼， 不該在正式場合使用 。但是有時用到恰到好處，卻有畫龍點睛之效 。例如當別人對你非常不好，簡直就完全無視於你的存在 。這時你就可以去跟別人哭訴 。"They treat me like crap." 或是另一種不雅的講法，"They treat me like s__t. "
7. Calm down. 冷靜一下。
每當有人太激動時你就可以安撫他說，"Calm down." 或是 "Chill out." 還有人也把 "Calm down." 說成 "Stay cool." 同樣都是要別人保持冷靜的意思， 這些也都是常聽到的口語用法 。

讲到这个 profitable 让我不得不提醒大家 non-profit 这个字, 因为常常有人会搞错. Non-profit 这个字指的并不是说不赚钱的, 而是说"非营利性质的", 例如像消费者文教基金会我们就可以说他是一个 non-profit organization, 非营利机构, 这种组织就不是以赚钱为目的. 但 nonprofitable 的话则是指不赚钱的就等于 unprofitable 或是 non-profit-making。
